Willie Louviere, PhD is the Director of LSU Integrative Community Studies Program
housed in the Lutrill & Pearl Payne School of Education in the College of Human Sciences
& Education. The LSU Integrative Community Studies Program, known as the LSU Community,
is a residential program that promotes independent living, employment opportunities,
and social interaction for individuals with moderate intellectual and developmental
disabilities. She has extensive experience in serving underserved rural student populations
in the public-school classroom and has worked extensively to guide them throughout
their journey to postsecondary education. Her research interests include providing
and improving rural access to college using Advanced Placement Language and Literature
coursework; nevertheless, as the mother of a child with special needs, providing access
to the college experience for all young adults has always been a primary driving force.
Louviere was a 24-year educator in Livingston and Ascension Parish before returning
to LSU. It is a great day to be a TIGER!
